I was interested in trying the Goat Pies at the Powerhouse Farmers Market today but unfortunately the goat pie guy was very busy and it was difficult to get near the tasting table.
I had to settle for a Cornish pastie for breakfast and some great lettuce and herbs to take home from my shopping trip.
More fungal wonders in the lawn outside work.
I suspect that these aren't the sort you want to eat.
Kerbside bar in Constance Street
I always seem to be posting about bars on this community, but finding new and interesting ones is something I like to do – particularly if it serves dark beer.
My latest discovery is Kerbside in Constance street, Fortitude Valley. apparently it has been there a couple of years but I discovered it more by accident when walking towards Ann street and a bus.
I'd describe the decor as op shop warehouse with clusters of chairs and couches arranged as you might find them on a show room floor. Each cluster has its own name according to the type of furniture it holds. I was sitting at the Formica kitchen table 🙂
On the day I was there it was serving some very nice beers from Bacchus Brewing off the tap – including a very nice double chocolate stout. Most of the small crowd that day was there drinking cocktails so it should have something for most tastes.
Took the city route on my walk yesterday morning and turned into Queen Street at 6am only to find one of the bars packed to overflowing.
As you might guess from some of the clothes it was the +Manchester United v +Real Madrid C.F. UEFA cup rematch on TV in a 24 hours a day bar. Don't know I've ever seen it that full though – especially at 6 in the morning

I didn't notice the red umbrella until I got home but like the pop of colour in the corner of the shot.

Almost accidentally we went bar hopping yesterday.
The plan was to drop into Green Beacon Brewing (top left) and sample their #craftbeer , before heading off for some Sunday lunch.
The plan was bought undone by some nice bar nibbles, which then required more of a walk and less eating.
The walk took us down Alfred Street, New Farm to James Street and Sixes and Sevens (top right). Nice atmosphere and a couple of decent beers but nothing dark on tap.
Heading off into the city we tracked down Alfred and Constance, by no coincidence on the corner of Alfred and Constance. Reminded me a bit of the sort of Queenslander I lived in during the 70s as a student – the lounge (bottom left) might even have had some of our furniture and what looks like my house mate Rod's audio gear 🙂
By this stage we were heading for the bus home but were distracted on our trip down Constance Street by Kerbside, a bar huddling in some semi industrial wasteland – cocktails, Bacchus Double Chocolate stout on tap, and a very exotic interior – who could ask for more.
In Queen Street today I stopped for a coffee and took the time to look at a sculpture by Cezary Stulgis called Dilogue
Made from cast bronze and commissioned by The Seymour group, it sits outside MacArthur Chambers.
This angle isn't the most common you will find of the sculpture, but I was trying to contrast the inherent restfulness of the piece with the hustle and bustle on one of Brisbane's busiest streets.
Cezary Stulgis also created one of my favourite Brisbane sculptures – but that is a photo for another day.
Why go to a bar on a wet Sunday when you can go to a brewery?
Very wet in brisbane today but decided to catch the ferry around to Teneriffe, and wend our way down Helen Street to Green Beacon Brewing.
A rough start to the trip as we had to chnage ferries, the citycat we were on had to go into the shop to replace a prop, courtesy of the rubbish and snags washing down the Brisbane River with the floods.
Once there however we found a bright clean brewery, set up with a long bar through the core of the shed, and plenty of seating across the front and around the wall.
For myself, their Penny Porter was an excellent example of the #craftbeer art, and the other drops were being equally well received by the patrons.
Despite the very wet weather today I managed to spend the morning wandering through Fortitude Valley and into the edges of New Farm down James Street.
I hadn't been to Winn Lane for sometime and went looking for coffee there.
While the coffee shop was a bit busy and there wasn't much room out of the rain, the lane did throw up "Atavist" – what must be one of the smallest bookshops I've ever come across. I didn't measure it, but I would say its less than 2.5m wide and a bit deeper (but not much).
I didn't inflict my wet self upon the proprietor, but will put it on my list for another fine day (even if the reading matter might not be exactly my normal fare :))
